Orpheus Island Visitor Information

Orpheus Island is a true Great Barrier Reef island. The surrounding waters contain what is regarded by experts to be some of the best coral on the entire Barrier Reef. In 1960, the entire island was declared a National Park and a little later the surrounding waters were declared part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The Resort is the only privately owned area.

Getting There

A holiday at Orpheus Island commences the moment you board the seaplane in Townsville or Cairns to travel over the unbelievable blue waters and enchanted isles rising from the Coral Sea beneath. Arrival on the tranquil beach is met with a warm welcome and cool fruit cocktail in the lounge area.

Aircraft: seven seater amphibious Cessna caravan - Owned by Orpheus Island Resort and operated by Nautilus Aviation. Bookings made at the time of reservation.

Transfer time: Townsville - Orpheus 30 Minutes : Cairns - Orpheus 60 Minutes

Townsville - Gate Lounge 10, Domestic Terminal, Townsville Airport.

Cairns - Orpheus Island operate a daily service from Cairns to Orpheus Island. Orpheus will arrange the Qantas flight between Cairns and Townsville to connect with Townsville seaplane service. Qantas and Seaplane flight details confirmed at time of booking.

We recommend that international guests travelling via Cairns allow a minimum of two hours between flights. Guests transferring from a domestic flight need to allow one hour between flights. Orpheus will arrange and book Qantas flights between Cairns and Townsville to connect with the Townsville seaplane service. Qantas and seaplane flight details will be confirmed at the time of booking.

Passengers are requested to be in the departure lounge, with their luggage (maximum 15kg per person), 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight.
